Small-scale Commercial Forestry (Western Victoria)
VicForests is now responsible for commercial timber production across all of Victoria's State forests.
Victoria uses a comprehensive and rigorous planning process to ensure that natural, cultural and catchment values found within State forests are protected while allowing for sustainable wood production.
Some areas for harvesting in eastern Victoria are managed by VicForests according to Timber Release Plans. Commercial timber harvesting in all other areas of State forest is now also managed directly by VicForests but according to Wood Utilisation Plans (WUPs) and arranged by Forest Management Area (FMA).
Proposed Timber Utilisation Plan
VicForests is in the process of developing a Timber Utilisation Plan (TUP). Once approved, the TUP will replace the current Wood Utilisation Plans (WUPs). For more information on the proposed Timber Utilisation Plan, please click here.
Wood Utilisation Plans
The former DEPI has prepared Wood Utilisation Plans for six FMAs. Other FMAs have WUPs in development, have no commercial timber harvesting or only have commercial timber harvesting managed through VicForests' Timber Release Plan.
