Stage One: Coupe Marking
The coupe is the area to be harvested. Coupe marking is undertaken by forest officers to mark on the ground the area the harvest contractor is allowed to harvest. It delineates, using coloured marking tape, coupe boundaries, exclusion areas such as rainforest, streams or important wildlife habitat.
Within the harvest area individual trees may also be marked for their seed or habitat value, or if they are particularly dangerous trees that workers must avoid.
