VicForests again rejects claims made by the ABC
VicForests is disappointed to see yet another repeat of claims and allegations that have been previously made, have resulted in an apology from the ABC and are currently being investigated by the Australian Communications and Media Authority. VicForests will refer this latest conduct to ACMA and seek to have this behaviour added to our existing complaint.
As we have already stated, the regulations provide that up to 10% of a planned harvest can exceed 30 degrees as long as any potential environmental impacts, such as soil movement and erosion are carefully managed. This has been a longstanding rule.
VicForests puts in place a range of protections (such as stream buffers) in its harvesting operations for the protection of water quality in accordance with the rigorous regulatory requirements.
All timber harvesting and regeneration operations are conducted in line with Victoria’s strict environmental regulations and the State’s Forest Management Zoning Scheme.
VicForests takes historical claims it hired a private investigator in 2010 and 2011 very seriously and will commission an independent investigation into the matter to address these claims and establish the facts.
The claims made do not reflect the culture, the values and the people of VicForests.
