Harvesting Process
Stage Four: Haulage
Specially designed, log-carrying trucks transport the sorted logs to customers at sawmills across Victoria.
Each individual D+ sawlog is given a barcode that records the log's dimensions, species and grade on a computerised data device which can then be used to track each log from the point of felling right to the customer delivery at the mill.
The barcode information:
- Helps track the volume and grade of logs sent to each customer
- Is used to calculate charges to customers for the logs they have received.
- Is used to calculate payments to harvest and haulage contractors for their services.
Logs graded E or residual are weighed and given a unique barcode that relates to the total load for each customer. The weight determines the relevant charges and payments applicable for each load.
