Timber Utilisation Plan (TUP)
The TUP identifies areas, called coupes, where we propose to conduct timber harvesting operations on areas not covered by the Allocation Order.
Operations in TUP coupes are generally small scale, low intensity community forestry operations. These operations produce a wide variety of timber products that go to a range of end uses including musical instrument manufacture, sawn timber products (including high quality furniture), fencing materials and firewood.
The TUP documentation displays all coupes on the approved TUP irrespective of their harvesting status. Coupes may be at different stages of the harvesting cycle.
Not all coupes on the TUP will be harvested and coupes may stay on the TUP for a number of years.
VicForests' changed TUP was approved by the VicForests Board and published on 2 May 2023. The approved TUP changes include the addition of 37 new coupes and changes to boundaries affecting 10 coupes.
On 17 March 2022, the VicForests Board approved changes to the TUP to facilitate forest recovery operations in the Wombat and Cobaw State forests following the 2021 storm events. These changes relate specifically to requested support from VicForests to achieve the forests restoration objectives of the Traditional Owners and are separate to the recent consultation on the proposed changes to the TUP which closed on 12 April 2022.
