Haulage
Each year, VicForests' haulage contractors use specially design, log-carrying trucks to move over one million cubic metres of timber from the forest to our customers.
The safety of the community, road users and our truck drivers is vital and we work closely with our haulage contractors to maintain safety standards and minimise risk.
Our haulage contractors share the same responsibilities as all other drivers when using public roads.
All haulage operations must comply with VicForests' 'Haulage Code of Behaviour' to ensure safety for all road users.
Hours of operation
VicForests is authorised to cart forest produce from VicForests operations on State forests in the Port Phillip, Hume and Gippsland Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning regions at any time of day, including on weekends and public holidays.
We develop haulage plans to minimise disruption to residents and help to maintain safety.
Haulage plans are specific to the relevant area and include information such as when and where school buses operate.
Road closures
Harvesting operations sometimes occur adjacent to public roads. To ensure safety, it may be necessary to close these roads for short periods.
If this occurs appropriate signage is placed to advise the public. We also notify residents of the closure and provide details such as the reasons for the closure, specific location and timing.
